Lexa Guthrie was born in Ohio on 1 Jan 1822. She married widower James Madison Williams in 1856 when she was 34 years of age. After their marriage they settled in Des Moines, Jasper, Iowa. The couple had two children of their own, sons James Guthrie Williams and Leroy Williams

James was a Civil War soldier enlisting in Company G of the Iowa 18th Infantry Regiment on 6 August 1862. The company fought in the battles of Springfield, Missouri; Poison Spring; Saline River, and skirmished fifty days down to the Red River, and back to Fort Smith under General Steele. He mustered out at Fort Smith, Arkansas on 19 January 1865. A fruit farmer, his 160 acre property contained two plum trees, two pear trees, 180 apple trees, and 300 grape vines. He died in 1902 at 87 years of age. Lexa was 96 at her death on 17 January 1918 in Jasper County, Iowa. She is buried at Monroe Cemetery. Her obituary was published in the Monroe Mirror.

James Guthrie Williams was the eldest of James and Lexa’s two children. He was born 15 Dec 1857 in Jasper County, Iowa. Like his father, he became a farmer. His marriage to Mary Ann Reed took place when he was in his mid-twenties. They had one daughter. James died on 14 March 1942 in Monroe, Jasper, Iowa. His widow died on 23 December 1932.

    Leroy Madison Williams was born in Jasper County, Iowa, grew to adulthood, and lived there during his 93 years of life. He was a farmer. His marriage to Anna Nimmo took place about 1901-1903. They had three children born between 1904 and 1912. Anna died in 1951 and Leroy five years later in 1956.
