Christopher Francis Guthrie was a farmer who settled in the area of Hyde County, North Carolina. He married Brianna Midyette in 1873 by whom he had 8 children. Only 6 of those children lived to adulthood. He was considered respectable community member and served as the Sunday School Superintendent associated with the Amity United Methodist Church.

Viola Mae Guthrie remained single into her early 40s. She owned her own shop working as a seamstress. Her marriage to Stephen Delmar Cox took place on 5 January 1916. They had one son, William Ashley Cox, who lived a short life dying at only 9 years of age. The family continued to live in Hyde County, North Carolina. Viola was about 75 at her death on 12 Feb 1949. Stephen outlived her by a couple of years. His death came on 15 Apr 1951. They are buried at the Amity United Methodist Church Cemetery in Lake Landing, Hyde, NC.

Janie Guthrie was a native of Engelhard, Hyde County, North Carolina. Like her older sister, Viola, she employed herself as a seamstress. For the last seven years of her life she lived in Norfolk and was residing at 133 West 10th Street. She was 80 years old at her death on 27 October 1955. Burial took place in Lake Landing.

Guy Moore Guthrie was born in Engelhard and lived the majority of his life in Hyde County, NC. In his youth, he worked the home farm as a farmer. Pursuing his education at old Trinity College, he became a respected school teacher working in that profession for 27 years and serving as a county superintendent.
He married Mary ‘Etta’ Clark in Hyde County on 3 January 1910 when he was 32 years old. They had one daughter and one son. Guy’s World War I Draft Registration Card describes him as being of medium height and build with dark brown hair, grey eyes. He died of complications of Bright’s Disease on 20 Nov 1930 and is buried at Soule Cemetery in Swanquarter, Hyde, NC in Lot 67.

Cecil Samuel Guthrie was born in Engelhard, Hyde, North Carolina. He married a cousin, Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Midyette. They had two sons. Cecil’s WWI Draft Registration Card describes him as being of medium height and build with dark brown hair and blue eyes. They settled in Norfolk, Virginia. He worked as the captain of a tanker ship for the Hunt Oil Company retiring nine years prior to his death in Manteo in 1958. He was a member of the Mt. Olivet Methodist Church. His widow Betty died on 23 Sep 1965.

Rosa F Guthrie was born in Engelhard, Hyde, NC, the youngest daughter of the family. She received a high school education typical of the day. Her marriage to Joseph Allen Credle came when she was 26 years old. They married on Christmas Eve in 1913. Initially settling in Swan Quarter, Hyde, NC, their two children were born between 1915 and 1919. They moved to Norfolk, Virginia where Joseph was employed as a fireman. He died on 16 Feb 1939 at only 48 years of age. Rosa lived another 25 years remaining a widow. She died of a heart attack on 15 Jan 1964 in Norfolk, Virginia.

By 1950, they had moved to Dare County, North Carolina. Helen died in 1966 and Hubert a year later.
