NOTES:
Matilda B Guthrie was born in Sodus, Wayne, NY on 10 Feb 1823. No marriage record found, but she presumably married John Pierce prior to 1846 when their eldest daughter was born. John Pierce was born in England or Wales. His identity is difficult to determine as there are several men of the same name and age entering or residing in New York at about the same time. He was a farmer. John and Matilda lived in Huron, Wayne, NY and raised three children. Matilda died in 1876 leaving a will dated 7 July 1875 and probated 8 May 1879 in Wayne, NY. This is unusual only because her husband was still living at the time. John Pierce was made the sole executor. John died on 31 March 1894 in Huron, Wayne, NY. They are buried at Huron Evergreen Cemetery.
