ORIGIN THEORIES for GFG6 – BRANCH B
Since the majority of Guthrie Family Group 6 lineages traditionally have some historical ties to Scotland, it is likely that Adam Guthrie’s ancestral line also originated there. It is unknown at this time how many generations resided in England.
Northumberland is a county in the North East of England which borders the Scottish Borders to the north and the North Sea coastline on the east. The Scottish Borders council area is made up of historical counties Berwick, Peebles, Roxburgh, and Selkirk Counties, and is located south of Edinburgh.
This region neighbors the area in Berwick that is home to GFG6 – Branch A. That family includes descendants using the name Adam, so it is certainly possible that this GFG6 – Branch B shares a closer common ancestor with that particular line.

JOHN GUTHRIE
Unknown ENG – 1763ENG
No birth or baptism record has been found, but his death in 1763 indicates that he had to be born between Adam and Frances if his birth occurred within the timeframe of his parents’ marriage. There is another Robert Guthrie of about the same age in Northumberland, but located in Newcastle whose trail leads back to a different set of parents.

HISTORICAL HIGHLIGHTS
Abt. 1740: BIRTH of ADAM GUTHRIE
Northumberland, England, presumably
Adam Guthrie married in Northumberland and his children were born there, but was he also born in England? I find no record showing his actual age or birth location.
Abt. 1740: BIRTH of ELIZABETH NESBIT
This is an estimate. Ancestry Hints comes up with 2 possibilities: Elizabeth Nesbit, daughter of John, born 23 Feb 1740 in Allentown, Northumberland, England, and Elizabeth Nesbit, daughter of John and Jane, born 26 Feb 1741, baptized 1 Mar 1741 at Harbottle, Northumberland, England. The latter seems to bee a good possibility since son Adam was born at Harbottle.
1761: MARRIAGE of ADAM GUTHRIE & ELIZABETH NESBIT
Berwick-upon-Tweed, Northumberland, England on 23 November 1761
1762: BIRTH of SON – ADAM GUTHRIE

Father: Adam Guthrie
1763: BIRTH and DEATH of SON – JOHN GUTHRIE

Kelloe, Durham, England on 16 Nov 1779
Adam Guthrie married Isabella Morrison. This couple had 2 known sons: William Douglas Guthrie and George Guthrie.

This couple died sometime after the birth of their last known child Isabel.
I have no data to suggest that they moved out of Northumberland, England, nor any information to suggest that they remained.

Frances Guthrie married Alexander Knox. Their children were Elizabeth Knox, James Knox, Adam Knox, Alexander Knox, Frances Knox, Mary Knox, and Robert Knox. They continued to live in Northumberland, England.

Findings:
Our participant has a Y-DNA 67 marker test matching 64/67 with the Group Mode DNA (most common value at any given genetic marker).
DYS456 appears to be a fast-moving marker. The group mode is listed as 18, but the range is 16 to 19. This kit is the only one with a result of 16.
CDYii = 38 instead of Group Mode = 39. This is commonly a fast moving marker across all groups. Also found in Kits 307769 (Branch D), 578951 (Branch E), and 251848 (Branch J).
DYS578 = 9 instead of Group Mode 8. This is a unique genetic difference compared to the rest of the group, which indicates that it is likely a more recent/random change rather than a pattern marker reflecting inherited genetic changes.
