Masey/Massey is a surname common to Middlesex County, Virginia. It is not found in the Scotland OPR prior to 1732.

Most likely born in August or September, Masey Guthrie was baptized on 4 September 1692 in Christchurch Parish. It is the only notation of his residence in Middlesex County.

It is presumed that he died in his infancy or early childhood. He would have been about 14 at the time of his father, John Guthrie’s death in 1706, yet he did not get assigned a guardian as did his brother, John Guthrie (Jr). During these times, even when the widow survives it is prudent or perhaps even legally necessary for a man to act as the child’s legal representative concerning any inheritance.
