Notes:

The 1776 Provincial Census of Maryland lists a James Guthry, 14. This census is not arranged by family, but by gender and age range, so it is presumed that James is a son of Robert Guthrie and Esther Giles. There is one other legitimate option within that record. Mary Gutry, aged 61, is also listed. She is too young to be Robert’s mother and probably too old to be a sister-in-law, but she could be a step mother. She would have been 47 at James’ birth if that scenario is accurate. However, he does easily fit within the birth range of Robert and Esther’s children, so he most likely was their son.

James is not mentioned in Robert Guthrie’s last will and testament written on 28 Feb 1788. He is presumed to have died prior to that date in either Maryland or Virginia.
