NOTES:
Mary Ann Guthrie was the second of five daughters born to George and Margaret (Walker) Guthrie. Her father was a farmer/laborer of Scot-Irish descent who had immigrated during the height of the Potato Famine. Her mother was born in England, the daughter of African and English parents who immigrated to Quebec at a young age under unknown circumstances. George and Margaret presumably met and married in Vermont where the later had moved for work. The couple moved to Saint Lawrence County, New York prior to Mary Ann’s birth in 1863. George died there just 10 years later leaving his widow with 5 daughters and an infant son.
The only census record listing the family during George Guthrie’s lifetime is the 1870 US census”
