HANNAH CALHOUN

Hannah Calhoun was born in Woodbury, Litchfield, Connecticut on 31 July 1758. Find-a-Grave has linked a tombstone for a Miss Hannah Calhoun who died 26 Jan 1852 at aged 73. Note that Hannah would be 93 in that year and yet the stone is perfectly legible. There is a Hannah Calhoun, aged 72, living with Hannah’s brother Reuben Calhoun, during the 1850 census (actually 2 Hannah Calhouns since one is Hannah (Beers) Calhoun, his wife). No relationships are given. Did Hannah lie about her age and say she was 20 years younger? As far as is known, Hannah Calhoun died unmarried and without issue.

Born on 30 November 1761 in Woodbury, Litchfield, Connecticut, Sarah Calhoun married Jonathan Hine on 30 May 1808 when she was 46 years of age. Unknown whether they had any children.

MARGERY CALHOUN
1764CT – 1843CT

Margery Calhoun was born 23 July 1764 and died 12 Sep 1843. Her grave is in Old Judea Cemetery.

REUBEN CALHOUN
1766CT – 1860CT

Reuben Calhoun was born on 7 August 1766 in Woodbury, Litchfield County, Connecticut. He married Hannah Beers before 1818. He was a farmer. They continued to live in Washington. Two known sons. His wife Hannah Beers died 30 Jan 1852 aged 72, within days of the other Hannah Calhoun living in the household who died on 26 Jan 1852 aged “73”. The deaths of Miss Hannah Calhoun, aged 73 and Mrs Hannah Calhoun, wife of Reuben Calhoun, aged 72 were announced in The Litchfield Enquirer on 4 Mar 1852 and The Hartford Times, published on 6 Mar 1852.

Son James was born on 7 January 1769 in Washington, Litchfield, Connecticut. He married Sarah ‘Sally’ Nichols there on 28 March 1798. They had 4 sons. James was a farmer. His wife died on 4 Nov 1851 and he followed two years later on 8 March 1853. They are buried at Washington Cemetery on the Green.

WILLIAM CALHOUN

The youngest son of James & Mary (Guthrie) Calhoun was born on 19 September 1773. William was twice married. First to Elizabeth Ferry on 23 December 1800. They had a son and daughter. Elizabeth died in 1812 after which William remarried to Mary Ann Parker on 5 May 1812. William died on 21 Dec 1835. He is buried in Old Judea Cemetery.
