When she was 23 years old she married Thomas Love on 24 Feb 1768 at Faggs Manor Parish Church. They lived in West Fallowfield. The couple had 4 known children born between 1768 and 1774, a relatively small number for the times considering both lived to be at least 80. Thomas Love was a Rev. War Soldier being a Second Lieutenant on the staff of General Samuel Cochran of a Company of Foot in the Fourth Battalion out of Chester, PA.

“Like his father, Thomas Love was a man of earnest piety, a true Christian, a loyal supporter of the church. He was a ruling elder in the Fagg’s Manor Church for more than sixty years.” (LRG, p.558)
One family record notes that Martha was blind for twenty years prior to her death. “The old arm-chair in which she sat during these years of darkness, and the family Bible, are in the possession of the family. Thomas Love helped cut and haul the timber for the first church at or near Faggs Manor in Chester Co., and which he helped to build. (Morrison, p.404)

Primary Sources
- Chester County, Pennsylvania Tax Assessments (1779 and related years): Assessment lists Thomas Love in the Faggs Manor / West Fallowfield area with 150 acres, 3 horses, 5 cattle, and 8 sheep. This establishes residence, economic status (landowning farmer), and presence in Chester County during the Revolutionary era. Sourced from original township assessment rolls; published excerpts in local histories or searchable in Pennsylvania Archives (3rd Series) or Chester County Archives databases. Proves household stability pre- and post-war.
- Revolutionary War Militia Service Records (Chester County, Pennsylvania, 1770s–1780s): Thomas Love served as Second Lieutenant (or equivalent rank) in a Company of Foot, 4th Battalion, Chester County Militia, under General Samuel Cochran. Original muster rolls, pay lists, and association papers in Pennsylvania Archives(5th Series or 6th Series volumes on militia). Confirms patriot status (eligible for DAR/SAR applications), age-appropriate service, and local military involvement. No federal pension file (common for militia officers), but county-level records provide direct proof.
- Faggs Manor Presbyterian Church Records (Chester County, PA, ca. 1768 onward): Marriage of Thomas Love and Martha Ann Guthrie on 24 February 1768 at Faggs Manor Parish Church; Thomas as long-serving ruling elder (over 60 years, including building the first church structure). Church session minutes, membership rolls, or marriage registers (Presbyterian Church Records collection on Ancestry/FamilySearch). Documents the union, religious affiliation (Scots-Irish Presbyterian community), and Thomas’s piety/leadership role. Baptisms of children (John 1768, James 1770, etc.) may appear if extant. Nuances: Some early Presbyterian registers are incomplete or in private church custody; cross-referenced in compiled church histories.
- U.S. Federal Census Records (Chester County, Pennsylvania, 1790–1820): Household of Thomas Love (and later Martha as widow briefly) in West Fallowfield Township. Examples: 1800 census excerpt shows family composition matching known children (e.g., via USGenWeb transcriptions or Ancestry images). Establishes ongoing residence, household size, and aging demographics. Primary for tracking post-Revolution life; edge case: 1790 may list under broader Fallowfield or as “Thomas Love” with males/females tally.
- Last Will and Testament of Thomas Love (Chester County, Pennsylvania, written/proved ca. 1825–1826): Names wife Martha Love (and likely children). Full record in Pennsylvania, U.S., Wills and Probate Records, 1683–1993 (Chester County volumes; Ancestry image viewer or Chester County Register of Wills). Primary proof of marriage, death timing (Martha survived him by only 9 days), estate distribution, and family relationships. Martha’s estate administration (if any) follows immediately due to proximity of deaths. No full public abstract widely available online, but the will directly references the spouse.
- Newspaper Obituary and Death Notices (Village Record, West Chester, PA, 1 February 1826): Detailed obituary for Thomas Love, Esq., died 20 December 1825 in West Fallowfield Township (aged ~86), noting church elder role, Revolutionary service (prayer in camp), magistracy, and piety. Transcribed on Find A Grave Memorial #10368365. Primary contemporary account of character, death date/place, and community standing; implies similar notice may exist for Martha (29 December 1825).
- Cemetery and Burial Records (Manor Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Cochranville, Chester County, PA): Graves for Thomas Love (and likely Martha Ann, plus children Ann Love Morrison and James Love). Find A Grave Memorial #10368365 (Thomas) includes possible stone photo/inscription and links; daughter Ann’s memorial #40917850 confirms family plot. Church sexton or burial ledgers may exist locally. Proves death location and family grouping.
- Land/Deed Records and Homestead Evidence (Chester County Deed Books, 1760s–1820s): Warrants, deeds, or patents for West Fallowfield property; noted secondary references to a 1768 cornerstone or marker “T.L.” on the homestead. Originals in Chester County Recorder of Deeds or Archives index (1681–1865). Confirms ownership, improvements, and inheritance patterns.
- Children’s Collateral Records (e.g., John Love’s 1834 Will, McMinn County, TN): Names siblings/parents indirectly via family Bible references or distribution. Tennessee Wills and Probate Records (Ancestry). Supports parentage and migration patterns (John moved to TN).
