NOTES: Robert Guthrie was born in Fauquier County, Virginia on 8 December 1794. He married Sarah “Sally” Long on 22 October 1815 in Woodford County, Kentucky. They settled in Henry County, Kentucky where they raised a large family of 5 sons and 6 daughters born between 1816 and 1841. Like most of the Guthries from this family group, Robert was a slave owner. The 1830 census lists 3 slaves. The 1840 census lists 5 slaves. Robert died 9 Feb 1842 leaving a will. His widow Sarah Guthrie is listed as the Head of Household during the 1850 census and was listed with 4 children aged 10-17. The slave schedule lists Sarah as the owner of two female slaves. She died on 10 Jun 1853 in Henry County, Kentucky. Robert may be buried at Old Rockbridge Church Cemetery in Eminence, Henry, Kentucky, but the stone is half buried, covered in lichen, and difficult to read. Sarah remarried to Sanford P Owens, as his 3rd wife, on 16 Nov 1852 in Henry County, KY. She died a few months later on 10 Jun 1853.

On 1 Oct 1840, John Guthrie married Fannie Owens, a daughter of his friend and neighbor, Sanford Owens. They became parents to two sons and two daughters. John was a farmer. They lived in Henry County, Kentucky.
John Guthrie was only 29 at his death in 1850. He may have been ill because he had a will written on 17 Oct 1849 leaving his wife Frances Guthrie 1/3 of his estate real and personal, which was to be divided amongst his children after her death. The farm, consisting of “one undivided half of of hundred & seventy six acres”, together with a negro girl named Jean, were to be sold, and the money to be used for the benefit of his wife and children. Sanford Owen & William Guthrie were appointed his executors.
Fannie remarried on 1 Dec 1851 to Blackwell Chilton. They had 4 children. She lived until 1 Aug 1918 in Port Royal, Henry, Kentucky, and was 96 at her death.

Matilda Guthrie married Dr Isaac M Underwood sometime prior to the 1850 census of Henry County, Kentucky. It was Isaac’s second marriage. He was a widower. He had a daughter from his first marriage, Elizabeth Underwood. Matilda and Isaac had no known children of their own.
The couple lived in Henry and Shelby Counties, Kentucky.
The Courier-Journal of 11 Nov 1906 reported Matilda Underwood’s death on page 5. “Underwood – Friday, November 9, 1906, at 5:10 p.m., in the 80th year of her age, Matilda Underwood, widow of Dr. Isaac underwood. Funeral Sunday at 3 o’clock p.m. from Walnut-street Baptist church, third and St. Catherine streets. Interment Eminence, Ky., Monday, November 12, 1906, 9:30 a.m.”

Daughter Sarah Ann Guthrie married at the age of 16 to Richard Corker Jackson. He was 24. They initially lived in Todd County, Kentucky, where their children were born. By 1860, they had moved to Orion County, Tennessee. Sarah A Guthrie wrote a Last Will and Testament signed on 28 Oct 1886 in which she left an equal distribution of her estate to her children. On 18 Aug 1888, the Nashville Banner published a death notice for Mr. R. C. Jackson of Union City for “August 13–[Special]–Mr R. C Jackson, one of our most prominent citizens, died of flux Sunday morning about 1 o’clock, and was buried at 5:30. The flux has about died out, and the health of our community is now good.”

James Thomas Guthrie was born in Kentucky. He was about 4 or 5 years of age when his father died. At 13, he was listed in the 1850 census of Henry County with his widowed mother and sisters. His mother Sarah Jane (Long) Guthrie died just 3 years later. James married 21 Oct 1864 to Margaret Ann Crawford, a daughter of Oswald and Mildred (Foley) Crawford, of Salt River, Mexico, Audrain, Missouri, USA. He was a Civil War veteran. James’ regular occupation was farming. James died on 15 Jan 1926 at 88 years of age. Margaret outlived him by 9 years. Their remains were interred at Long Branch Cemetery in Monroe County, Missouri.

Samuel next married Florence M Jackson, his niece by marriage, the daughter of Sarah Ann (Guthrie) and Richard Corker Jackson.
