Commissariot of St Andrews

Commissariot Record of St. Andrews:
Register of Testaments

The Commissariot of St Andrews covered a large and historically important area of eastern Scotland, including Fife, parts of Perthshire, Angus, and the coastal districts around Arbroath, Dundee, and St Andrews itself. Its Register of Testaments, abstracted and published by the Scottish Record Society under the editorship of Francis J. Grant, spans from 1549 to 1800. Because this region includes the parish of Guthrie and many of the family’s traditional lands in Angus, the volume contains a substantial number of Guthrie entries, ranging from the main line of Guthrie of that Ilk to merchants, ministers, and smaller landholders. A few later entries survive only in the Minute-Book where the original testaments have been lost.
