Family Evidence NotesHer parents, the death entry, and her age.

Directly named parents. The birth and baptism entry on printed page 135 identifies Lettice as the daughter of William and Frances Guttery. It records her birth on 17 November and baptism on 26 November 1732.

The death entry. Printed page 190 records the death of Lettice Guttery on 15 November 1734. It gives no parents or age. Its association with this daughter is retained in the family reconstruction, while the distinction between what the entry says and how it is identified remains important.

Age at death. Comparing the birth and death dates places her death two days before her second birthday. She was one year old in completed years; the register itself does not state her age.

Burial and cause of death. Neither is supplied by the death entry. Recording a death in Christ Church Parish does not establish a particular cemetery or grave.

The Guthrie DNA Project

Lettice died in early childhood and has no descendant line to represent in DNA testing. The parish register documents her place in William and Frances’s family.

The broader Branch F research includes a tested North Carolina Guthrie line matching GFG1A, while the Middlesex family shares Christ Church Parish with Branch B. See the Family Hub for those connections and the continuing research into them.

Most Wanted DocumentsEvidence that could add to Lettice’s brief recorded life.
  • A securely identified burial record or memorial. A record naming Lettice and connecting her to William and Frances could establish her burial place.
  • A contemporary family entry. A Bible, letter, or household record could strengthen the connection between the birth and death entries or preserve a family remembrance of this child.

Remembering Lettice

Only a few lines in the parish register preserve Lettice’s short life. Those entries give her a place among William and Frances’s children and keep her name in the family’s history.
