GUTHRIE FAMILY GROUP CONNECTIONS in UTAH:

Utah’s Guthrie presence is tied to the mid-19th-century Mormon pioneer migration and territorial settlement rather than colonial-era records. Key early arrivals include branches from Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Maryland, and post-revolutionary lines, with documented LDS Church emigration. Families often settled in Weber, Salt Lake, and Utah counties. Research draws heavily from Perpetual Emigrating Fund records, territorial censuses, probate files, and church histories. Evidence from emigration, census, and Perpetual Emigrating Fund records confirms that the family of Daniel Guthrie (b. 21 May 1837) traveled to Utah in 1854 or 1855. Further research is needed to pinpoint the exact company and year, but the records place the Guthries among the waves of converts and settlers arriving in the Great Salt Lake Valley during the territorial period.

Thomas Burton Guthrie (b. 20 Oct 1837, Lancashire, England; d. 8 Sep 1890, Harrisville, Weber County, Utah) and his wife Emma Sarah (White) Guthrie (b. 1841; d. 1939) are documented Mormon pioneers. Thomas settled in Weber County after emigration; Emma appears in pioneer biographical collections and overland travel indexes. Their line represents one of the early English-convert branches that integrated into Utah’s agricultural communities.

Probate records from the territorial period (especially Third District Court, Salt Lake County) occasionally reference Guthries in business or estate contexts. One documented example involves James William Guthrie, associated with a Salt Lake City mercantile partnership (Meredith and Guthrie) in the early 1900s; related billheads and probate case files (Series 1621) survive in the Utah State Archives.
