CEDAR COUNTY
Created in 1837 from sections of Dubuque County.
The county seat is the City of Tipton.

WAYNE COUNTY
Created in 1846, but was still attached to other counties for governmental purposes. It shares a southern border with Missouri, which was in dispute until 1848. Settlement in the county began as early as 1841 by persons thinking they were in Missouri. Official Iowa settlement started about 1848.
